Ethnic Gnosticism

I came across a provocatively titled video, “Ethnic Gnosticism” by Voddie Baucham, last week and gave it a watch.  I’ve now watched it a second time because I found it very helpful in processing through many of the thoughts and questions I’ve had surrounding the recent events causing significant racial tension.  You’ll find the video below, so I won’t spoil it by writing out all of Baucham’s points here, but I will share a few things that stood out to me:

  1. “Colorblind Theology” is not biblical as the color of anything is an intentional act of God in His creation.

  2. Ethnic Gnosticism is hurting genuine Christian relationships because it leads to immediate alienation of true brothers and sisters in Christ.

  3. Inherited sin is unbiblical (save from Adam). See Ezekiel 18.

  4. The modern expectation of atoning for one’s inherited sin of racism is undefined and leads to an unattainable standard.

  5. God’s word triumphs amidst all the hate, confusion, and lies. His Son’s death alone atones for sin, every sin, and brings about the change of heart that leads to life.
